Grants Accountant
 
QUALIFICATIONS/ CERTIFICATIONS :                

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  2. New Jersey State School Business Administrator’s Certificate, a plus.
  3. 1-3 years of professional accounting experience is preferred.
  4. Prior experience in NJ Public School Finance is preferred but not required. 

REPORTS TO:  Business Administrator/Assistant Business Administrator

 
Position Summary: 
Responsible for daily financial accounting functions and operations of the school district. Perform analysis of activities and cost centers related to income and expenses. 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 
Knowledge of GAAP accounting and budgetary accounting and cash management preferred. Knowledge of Microsoft and Google Suite automated applications.
Some experience with general and special revenue fund accounting. Some experience with Systems 3000 accounting software applications, New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Budget & Financial Management and Grants Management Systems is preferred but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assures that the district confirms to State GAAP code requirements.
  • Records detail of school financial transactions in the computerized finance system in the appropriate journals and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Prepares reconciliations of bank accounts.
  • Prepares budget transfers for Board of Education as per State Regulations.
  • Keeps accurate and detailed accounts of all financial transactions as prescribed by, statute, administrative code and Board policy.
  • Provides administration with timely reviews of district financial status and progress in its various programs, activities and cost centers.
  • Prepares records for annual audit and participates in the audit of the districts accounts.
  • Monitors receipt of tax levy payments, State Aid and Federal Grants.
  • Prepares reports which summarize the district’s business activity and financial position in areas of income, expense and revenue based on historical and current operations.
  • Assists accounts payable personnel in properly encumbering and processing for payment, the purchase order for the district.
  • Make sure the district is in compliance with all NJDOE deadlines.
  • Prepare other specialty NJDOE reports as required.
  • Performs all other duties assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant School Business Administrator/Business Administrator

  
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     Twelve (12) month. Salary is negotiable.
