The Santa Ana Water Board’s Division of Planning, Implementation and Permitting has an opening for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) position in the Planning Branch. The position is located at 3737 Main Street, Suite 500, Riverside right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation.

Duties:

A Senior Environmental Scientist (Specialist) will lead assigned special project and studies either in individual capacity or in a team setting in the areas of regional planning, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDLs) development, implementation and compliance related activities, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) projects, liaising between State Water Board program managers and other Regional Coordinators, public, and stakeholders statewide. This role is essential for providing consistent and uniform information about Santa Ana Water Board’s TMDL programs and policy implementation, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects and providing support and expertise in enforcement cases as assigned by the Branch chief. The position requires a high level of technical competency in CEQA, TMDLs and planning-related projects and programs, and may require technical review and input in support of other Basin Planning and water quality related projects and programs. Strong computer skills are essential for data analysis and management, developing presentations, and using appropriate tools and software to perform outreach and communication with internal and external partners. Overall, this position requires a combination of technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of CEQA, TMDLs and scientific knowledge to effectively support and advance Santa Ana Water Boards TMDLs programs and other assigned special projects/scientific studies for the RWQCB-8 Office.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.

Salary: $7,336.00 - $9,126.00 per Month
