Animation Tutor [Paid Position]
A Free Bird is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in New York City. Our organization provides children diagnosed with cancer the opportunity to explore their artistic passions. Artistic expression has been proven to play an instrumental role in the healing process. We support children affected by cancer in their exploration of a range of self-expression such as art, music, acting, poetry, writing, singing, and other creative mediums.
We are currently seeking candidates for a PAID Animation Tutor position to conduct one-on-one animation lessons with children at A Free Bird. The ideal candidate is a professional animator, animation student, or an individual with formal animation training who is passionate about teaching and working with children. Patience, adaptability, and empathy are key, especially when working with children who may require flexible scheduling due to medical treatments.
Tutoring sessions may be conducted virtually or in-person depending on the child’s location. The minimum tenure for this position is three months, with the option to extend.
Responsibilities
Conduct engaging animation tutoring sessions for children ages 8–18, tailored to each child’s interests and skill level
Teach foundational animation principles, tools, and software (e.g., Flipaclip, Toon Boom, or Adobe Animate)
Take a photo or screenshot of the session and submit it to the organization as confirmation
Submit a weekly Google Form evaluation summarizing the child’s progress, goals, and feedback
Communicate regularly with the guardian and child to align on learning objectives and keep them motivated
Qualifications
Minimum of 2–3 years of formal experience in animation (school, structured programs, or professional work)
Comfortable working with beginner-level animation tools and simplifying complex concepts for children
Prior experience working with children is a plus, but not required
Creative, flexible, and empathetic personality
Strong communication and time management skills
Pay Range: $60–$80/hr (Final rate will be determined based on experience)
