Cost Accountant

Established in 1919 and traded on the NYSE, Standard Motor Products, Inc. (SMP) is a leading independent manufacturer and distributor of premium automotive replacement parts utilized in the maintenance, repair, and service of vehicles in the automotive aftermarket. Additionally, SMP provides customized solutions for vehicle control and thermal management products in diversified end markets represented by its Engineered Solutions segment.

 

Globally, SMP employs over 6,000 employees across nearly 40 manufacturing, distribution, and engineering facilities and offices located in North America, Europe and Asia. SMP sells its products primarily to automotive aftermarket retailers, program distribution groups, warehouse distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and original equipment service part operations in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Mexico, and other Latin American countries.

Cost Accountant

This is a salaried exempt position responsible for supporting the cost, capital and fixed asset accounting processes of the company. Responsibilities include (but not limited to): overseeing and analyzing standard costing, BOMs and routers related to the manufacturing processes in the facility, performing quarterly and annual cost roll and providing details to upper management for inventory revaluations, assisting in the month-end close process, maintaining accurate fixed asset records, producing periodic financial reports and adhering to internal controls.   

 

The ideal candidate should possess solid technical and analytical skills, as well as strong problem solving, organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge of JDE helpful.  Knowledge and application of basic accounting procedures and cost accounting processes are required.  The candidate must have the ability to function at a high level of independence while maintaining effectiveness and flexibility.

 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.  4 years related experience preferred.  Previous experience in a factory/supply chain role helpful.
