Project Engineer
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Project Engineer is responsible for the design, development, operation, and maintenance planning of new proprietary and purchased manufacturing equipment. This role supports Process Engineering in the commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) of new equipment, products, and processes prior to release to Production.
The position drives Design for Manufacturability, Lean initiatives, and ensures that projects are completed on time and within budget. Additional responsibilities include supporting cost-reduction projects, leading production set-ups and changeovers, and coordinating cross-functional teams across manufacturing, quality, planning, supply chain, warehouse, maintenance, sales, and engineering functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage design and development projects, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
Track and report project milestones, deliverables, and financial performance.
Oversee transition of assigned products from development to full-scale production, ensuring manufacturing processes meet quality and cost targets.
Develop preventive maintenance and spare parts programs for all new and existing production equipment.
Create and maintain equipment documentation packages including BOMs, work instructions, wiring diagrams, operation manuals, and troubleshooting guides.
Recommend design improvements for manufacturability, cost reduction, and quality enhancement.
Lead Lean events, Kaizen teams, and process-improvement projects aimed at productivity and cost optimization.
Develop and implement automation solutions to improve efficiency, reduce lead time, and enhance product quality.
Conduct design reviews and technical meetings to ensure manufacturability of components and systems.
Drive continuous improvement efforts across products and processes through innovation, ergonomics, tooling, and software implementation.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (Sales, QA, Manufacturing, Planning, Supply Chain, and Maintenance) to meet production and sales goals.
Establish and maintain standard operating processes for engineering and production areas.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Strong proficiency in CAD software — AutoCAD and SolidWorks preferred.
Effective communicator across departments and levels.
Demonstrated experience in industrial product and tooling design.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills, including Engineering Economics.
Experience with Lean manufacturing, process improvement, and Six Sigma methodologies.
Knowledge of FMEA, root cause analysis (RCA), Cpk, and gage R&R preferred.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams in the development and introduction of new products.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a fast-paced manufacturing environment (or equivalent education/experience combination).
Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma certifications preferred.
Prior consumer or industrial product manufacturing experience desirable.
Must be available to work on-site within a manufacturing facility.
