Job Description: Air Force Officer (Engineering Focus)

Overview
The United States Air Force is seeking highly motivated individuals pursuing or holding degrees in the following majors to join as future commissioned officers: 

  • Architecture or Architectural Engineering
  • Environmental/Environmental Health Engineering
  • Aerospace, Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering *Concentration in Aeronautical Engineering
  • Computer Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • General Engineering

Selected candidates will attend a 9.5-week Officer Training School (OTS), where they will develop leadership skills, military knowledge, and the character required of an Air Force officer.


Upon successful completion of OTS, candidates will commission as Second Lieutenants and may be assigned roles as engineers in one of several Air Force specialty areas, depending on degree, aptitude, and service needs.

Responsibilities

  • Complete a structured 9.5-week officer development program focused on leadership, military customs, ethics, and team operations.
  • Learn and apply Air Force Core Values and officer responsibilities.
  • Upon commissioning, serve as a leader, engineer, and technical expert in assigned operations.
  • Manage, design, and oversee complex engineering projects that support national defense objectives.
  • Lead teams of Airmen in the planning, execution, and sustainment of critical Air Force missions.
  • Ensure safety, compliance, and mission effectiveness across engineering operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing or completed a bachelor’s degree in required major.
  • Graduated or graduating Fall 2025/Spring 2026
  • U.S. citizen.
  • Ability to meet Air Force physical, medical, and moral standards.
  • Strong academic performance in a STEM discipline.
  • Leadership potential, adaptability, and willingness to serve.
