Graphic Designer

Graphic Designer – Studio & Branding Internship

About GK Media Group

GK Media Group is a mission-driven media startup redefining journalism through structure, transparency, and clarity. Our proprietary technology and disciplined editorial model work together to build a news ecosystem that actually helps people understand the world, instead of getting lost in noise and outrage.

Joining now means working at the stage where the brand, visuals, and systems that people will associate with GK for years are still being built.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a Graphic Designer (Intern) to shape the visual language of GK Media Group across editorial, studio, and brand channels. You’ll create graphics for articles, social media, decks, and podcasts; help refine our visual identity; and translate complex ideas into clean, clear visuals.

You’ll work closely with the Executive Director, Studio team, and Editorial team, and your work will be used in live products—newsletter issues, social campaigns, launch materials, and investor-facing collateral. This is a strong fit for someone who cares about aesthetics and clarity equally.

What You’ll Do

Brand & Visual Identity

Contribute to the evolution of GK’s visual identity (color, typography, layout style, design system).

Maintain consistency across all assets: newsletters, website graphics, social posts, decks, and internal docs.

Help build and refine a reusable library of templates and components for the team.

Editorial & Studio Design

Design graphics and visual elements for articles, explainers, and newsletters (e.g., pull-quote layouts, section headers, charts/diagrams).

Create cover art and episode graphics for GK podcasts and studio content.

Support the creation of thumbnails, title cards, and basic motion/animated assets (if skills allow).

Social & Marketing Assets

Design social media assets for platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and X: post templates, carousels, story layouts, and campaign visuals.

Support visual assets for launch announcements, hiring posts, and community updates.

Internal Materials

Assist with design for investor decks, hiring one-pagers, internal guides, and process graphics.

Turn simple workflows and systems into clean visual diagrams that are easy for the team to use and understand.

What You’ll Gain

Real, portfolio-ready work used in a live media startup (not speculative assignments that never ship).

Experience building and applying a design system across multiple formats: editorial, social, decks, and studio.

Close collaboration with leadership and core team members on how visuals support strategy, content, and product.

Practical experience working with deadlines, feedback cycles, and multi-stakeholder input.

Internship Structure & Compensation

This is an unpaid internship.

As GK Media Group grows, strong contributors may be considered for future paid or equity-based roles based on company needs and separate written agreements. This posting does not guarantee future compensation; the guaranteed value is the level of responsibility, access, and portfolio-building design work you’ll take on from the start.

Qualifications

Required

Strong portfolio showing clean, thoughtful design (can be academic, freelance, or personal work).

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) or equivalent tools (Figma, Affinity, etc.).

Solid understanding of typography, layout, and color.

Ability to interpret a brief, ask clarifying questions, and deliver on time.

Attention to detail and a willingness to iterate based on feedback.

Nice to Have (Optional, Not Required)

Experience with Figma or similar for UI-style layout.

Basic understanding of social media formats and best practices.

Light motion/animation skills (After Effects, Premiere, or equivalent).

Interest in news, media, or policy topics.

Details

Type: Unpaid internship.

Location: Remote-first, with optional hybrid collaboration in Boston or New York City.

Schedule: Flexible, with recurring check-ins and deadlines; can be tailored around classes and other commitments.
