Kinetic Minds is a creative coding studio for elementary-age kids. We teach computer science fundamentals through play, storytelling, and hands-on activities using age-appropriate tools like Code.org. Our focus is on confidence, curiosity, and problem-solving, not screens for screen’s sake.
This role supports early learners (Kindergarten–5th grade) in small-group coding classes using prebuilt curriculum. You do not need to design lessons from scratch.
The Role
We’re looking for calm, reliable instructors to facilitate coding classes for young children using Code.org or similar pre-made curriculum.
This is a great fit for:
- Computer Science undergraduates or master’s students
- Students interested in education, child development, or community work
- Anyone who enjoys working with kids and explaining ideas simply
⚠️ Important: This is a part-time, contract role. Hours are not guaranteed and will depend on class enrollment and scheduling.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate in-person coding classes for K–5 students
- Follow provided lesson plans and curriculum as written
- Verbally explain instructions and guide kids through activities
- Support students with different reading levels and learning styles
- Maintain a positive, patient, and inclusive classroom environment
- Communicate clearly with Kinetic Minds leadership before and after classes
- Participate in onboarding, training, and occasional teach-backs
You are not expected to:
- Create curriculum
- Lecture
- Troubleshoot advanced technical issues
- Manage parents or billing
Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed an undergraduate or graduate program in any major
- Comfortable using computers and able to learn new technical concepts quickly
- Experience working with children (tutoring, camps, babysitting, mentoring, teaching assistant, etc.)
- Comfortable working with children ages 5–11
- Clear verbal communicator who can explain ideas simply (no jargon)
- Able to follow structured lesson plans consistently
- Calm under pressure and responsive to kids’ needs
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
Preferred (but not required)
- Familiarity with Code.org
- Interest in education, STEM outreach, or child development
Schedule & Pay
- Classes are typically after school on weekdays or Saturday mornings
- Sessions are 45–75 minutes long
- Pay: per class (details shared during interview)
- Training is paid (if applicable)
- Hours are not guaranteed and may vary week to week based on enrollment
