Theater Director (PAID Internship Available)
Camp Winnebago is seeking two Theater Directors to join our summer staff and lead our theater program for the 2026 season. These roles are ideal for creative, energetic individuals who are passionate about working with children and adolescents and who believe in theater as a powerful tool for self-expression, confidence-building, and community.
Position Overview
The Theater Directors are responsible for designing and leading engaging, age-appropriate theatrical experiences for campers. Directors will guide campers through the collaborative process of acting, storytelling, rehearsal, and performance while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. This role emphasizes creativity, mentorship, and fun over perfection or performance pressure.
The two Theater Directors will work collaboratively with each other and with the broader arts and program staff.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and lead daily theater activities and rehearsals
Direct one or more theatrical productions during the summer session
Help campers develop confidence, creativity, collaboration, and stage presence
Create a welcoming environment where campers of all experience levels feel comfortable participating
Encourage camper input and creativity in storytelling, character development, and staging
Collaborate with other staff to integrate theater into camp-wide events and traditions
Maintain a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate space for campers
Model positive behavior, strong boundaries, and respectful communication
Qualifications
Experience in theater, drama education, acting, directing, or a related field
Experience working with children or adolescents (camp, school, youth programs, etc.)
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to lead groups with patience, enthusiasm, and flexibility
A collaborative mindset and willingness to be part of a close-knit camp community
Prior camp experience is a plus, but not required
