Environmental Health and Safety Intern

Job Title:   EHS Intern

 

SUMMARY:

Coordinate and help manage the health and safety activities of South Plainfield, NJ.  The role will focus on a plant-wide environmental, health and safety strategy to assure regulatory compliance, achieve zero workplace injuries, cause no harm to the environment or community we operate in, and meet new safety challenges for obtainment of business objectives. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Participate in the preparation of safety committee agenda meeting.  Put together safety Toolbox Talks.
  • Track monthly safety training.
  • Participate in site industrial hygiene programs for noise and/or chemical exposure and assist with any testing or surveys required. 
  • Prepare hazard communication labels for containers and pipelines as needed.  Review inventory of materials stored on site and assist with maintaining site safety data sheets.
  • Review emergency supplies and equipment located throughout the site and update master and department equipment lists.  Participate in inspections of emergency equipment for site and HAZMAT team.
  • Participate in site safety work permits and related programs including calibration of monitoring equipment.
  • Assist with any data collection and entry for environmental compliance programs related to air permit, wastewater permit, and/or ISO14001 environmental management system program.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Background in Chemical Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, or any equivalent technical field. 
  • Computer literate – proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of software applications.  AutoCAD knowledge is a bonus.

 

  • Good communication skills across all levels of the organization.

 

  • Ability to drive, manage and influence change.

 

  • Well organized and can plan and follow-up on items.
