Summary

A career in Engineering will provide the opportunity to perform general engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments. This typically includes planning, designing and estimating time and cost, and overseeing construction of facilities. This also involved developing and applying engineering standards and procedures, and providing advice on issues within the engineering field. Additionally, this role may need to be able to apply Computer Aided Design (CAD) techniques to generate and interpret engineering designs in support of assigned projects. 

Roles within Engineering are responsible for a variety of engineering services functions that could include construction, systems engineering, design support, or similar engineering support activities. This includes ensuring the timely, thorough, and accurate completion of all engineering services projects. This also includes the preparation of new or modified designs. The team also must act as Subject Matter Experts providing technical support to the operations function as well as other functional areas within SJI.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Performing basic design tasks
  • Assisting on other tasks such as, preparation of permit applications, material testing, drawings, and computer-aided design (CAD) work
  • Acquiring basic knowledge and developing skills in a specific practice area
  • Applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment
  • Exercising limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
  • Applying the South Jersey Gas Construction Manual and New Jersey Administrative Code to design tasks
  • Technical review of engineering drawings for gas service and main installation projects
  • Working as a liaison between external design vendors and internal customers
  • Participating in group meetings and presenting results of work in collaboration with various departments
  • Review new business gas service and main designs
  • Collaborate with other departments on design and construction ambiguities and problem solving
  • Support Engineers II’s in renewals and special projects as needed

 

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor degree of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited school. Alternate degrees may be accepted provided relevant work experience is demonstrated.
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • AutoCAD experience
  • Engineer-in-Training certification
