Build Where the Problems Are
We're hiring a Junior Forward-Deployed Developer to work on-site at our Fairfield, NJ headquarters. "Forward-deployed" means exactly what it sounds like: your desk is near the warehouse, near the operations team, near the people whose problems you're solving. You see the impact of your work in real time, every day.
This role is for a technologist at heart who wants to be deeply embedded in the operations. Not observing from a distance or building from a spec, but sitting inside the operation, absorbing how things actually work, and then applying your curiosity around software development to make it all better. You'll watch a process run, understand why it works the way it does, spot the gaps, and build something that improves it. Then you'll iterate on it the next day when you see what actually happened.
You'll work directly with our COO and a small, high-trust engineering team. The COO codes and builds alongside the team. There's no layer of project managers between you and the work.
What You'll Actually Do
- Embed deeply with operations, logistics, warehouse, and business teams so you understand the real workflows, not just what the documentation says
- Apply your technical curiosity to day-to-day operations: watch how things work, ask why, then build tools and automations that make them work better
- Document processes and tribal knowledge as you learn them, turning institutional memory into systems that scale
- Build tools, scripts, and automations that solve real problems for people sitting 20 feet from you
- Turn data into decisions: build dashboards, analyses, and automated workflows that change how the business operates
- Own problems end-to-end, from absorbing the context to building the solution to iterating when you see the results
- Groom and refine data manually when needed to get the most accurate context for your work
- Build and maintain integrations connecting systems with carriers, payment processors, and third-party services
- Create automation workflows, data transformation scripts, and API connections between business systems
AI Is Your Primary Toolkit
We use AI and automation as force multipliers because they let one person do the work of ten. Claude Code is our primary development tool. We have a strong bias toward using it for all of our work.
We expect you to already be experimenting with AI in meaningful ways. Not just using autocomplete, but actively building with LLMs, deploying new patterns, and pushing the boundaries of what AI can do. If you're the kind of person who sees a workflow and immediately starts thinking about how to systematize it, document it, and then automate it, you're our person.
In your application, share a link to something you've built or a project where you used AI. We want to see what you've done, not just what you know.
Who You Are
- You're a technologist who is genuinely curious about how businesses operate. You want to understand the operation so you can build better tools for it
- You learn fast and you don't wait to be taught
- You'd rather ship something imperfect today than design something perfect next quarter
- You don't need a ticket to start working. You see a problem and you fix it
- You're comfortable with ambiguity. Requirements here come from conversations, not Jira tickets
- You can code (Python, SQL, JavaScript, whatever gets the job done). You understand data. You can figure out the rest
- You already use AI tools daily in your own work. You see LLMs, automation, and APIs as force multipliers, not novelties
- You're biased toward action and deeply data-driven in how you make decisions
- You like to document things. You believe good documentation is what turns tribal knowledge into a real system
Technical Environment
Claude Code, JavaScript, Python, SQL, n8n (workflow automation), REST APIs, webhooks, MySQL, Supabase, Monday.com, Google Workspace, Git/GitHub
What You'll Learn
The pace is fast. The problems are real. The impact is immediate. You'll learn more in six months here than two years at a company with an established engineering org, because here you're building the systems from the ground up. You'll gain deep exposure to e-commerce, logistics, carrier integrations, payment systems, data pipelines, and AI-driven automation. And because you're embedded in the operation, you'll understand the "why" behind everything you build, not just the "how."
Most development team members are Spanish-speaking, creating a diverse and inclusive technical environment.
Compensation
Salary: $50,000 - $65,000 (based on experience)
Benefits: Comprehensive package including 401(k) with company match, health insurance, and paid time off
Location
On-site in Fairfield, NJ. This role requires physical presence. The whole point is being deployed alongside the teams you're building for.
