TEACHER’S ASSISTANT
• Qualifications:
· An Associate Degree from an accredited college or 48 credits at a 4-year accredited college is preferred.
· Minimum High School Diploma/GED (must be equivocated if foreign).
· NYSED Teacher Assistant Certification.
· A genuine interest in teaching and willingness to motivate students to learn.
· Sensitivity to the needs of all students.
· A desire to acquire effective training techniques in behavior analysis programming
• Accountability:
· Directly accountable to the Classroom Teacher, Senior Teacher, and coordinator of the Program
• Responsibilities:
· Directly responsible to specific group assignments.
· Responsible for implementation of daily and weekly programs as assigned by NYSED certified teacher for each student in the assigned group.
· Assist in any clerical work (i.e., daily attendance, requisitions, trip lists, graphing data).
· Responsible for carrying out daily schedules as developed and planned.
· Responsible for participating in in-service training, CPR, behavior analysis training programs and completing one book/quiz per month.
· Instruct students in daily proper hygiene habits.
· Assists in accompanying students to the medical office and off-grounds medical appointments or other services as needed.
• General Responsibilities:
· Participates in all meal programs.
· Participates in training sessions and in-service meetings.
· Ensures that the program areas are kept in order.
· Participates in Activities of Daily Living.
· Assumes additional responsibilities when assigned to maintain the quality of care for all individuals.
· Follows established HCDS policies and procedures.
· Assumes additional responsibilities as stated in the attached training program.
· Participates in all recreation programs.
· Assures the safety and welfare of all individuals.
· Assumes additional responsibilities when assigned.
• Physical Responsibilities:
· Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during work hours
· Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
· Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met
· Must function independently, have personal integrity, be flexible, and able to work effectively with other personnel
· Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
