About the Organization: Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative (BVMI) is a nonprofit healthcare clinic providing free, comprehensive primary, specialty, and mental health care to low-income, uninsured, working adults in Bergen County, along with support for the social determinants of health. The clinic operates with volunteer physicians, working alongside a small clinic staff, and provides thousands of visits annually.
Position Overview: This internship offers hands-on exposure to healthcare operations, quality improvement, and data analytics within a medical clinic. The intern will actively contribute to meaningful projects that impact patient care, funding, and reporting.
What You Will Learn:
- How healthcare data is collected, validated, and prepared for analysis
- How to translate data into written reports for grants and stakeholders
- How operational decisions (staffing, workflows, and programs) are influenced by data
- Professional communication and project management in a clinical setting
- Hands-on experience with tools and software used in healthcare
What You Will Do:
- Support staff and patient surveys, including distribution and analysis
- Prepare reports that drive appointment scheduling and more
- Clean and organize patient data for state reporting and grant submissions
- Assist with ad-hoc operational or reporting projects tailored to your interests
