Associate Distribution Engineer-Framingham, MA

Talascend is currently seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer for a contract opportunity with our client in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Overview

The role involves supporting electrical distribution projects, including developing work packages for overhead and underground systems, performing engineering calculations, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The position offers opportunities to gain experience in utility design and project management while working in both field and office environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems operating from 4kV through 138kV, mainly related to overloaded transformers, inspections, and maintenance.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements in dense urban environments.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, conductor sags and tensions, and voltage drop.
  • Develop permitting documents for different authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Support construction activities, including site inspections and post-construction reviews.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and implement mitigation strategies using engineering principles.
  • Travel to sites as needed, perform inspections, and perform design work upon return to the office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial) from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to utilize a personal vehicle for travel, with travel expenses reimbursed at IRS-approved rates.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work, including outdoor environments on occasion.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distribution design tools such as BOUD, Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, or similar.
  • Experience using CAD tools, MicroStation, and/or GIS.
  • Knowledge of NESC and design standards.
