AI Engineer Intern
We are seeking early‑career AI Engineers for a hands-on internship program designed to grow talent into full‑time roles.
This opportunity is ideal for recent graduates, final‑year students, or professionals with up to 2 years of experience who are excited about Generative AI, LLMs, and applied AI systems.
This role emphasizes learning by doing it. You will work on real GenAI use cases, supported by experienced engineers, and gain exposure to model experimentation, APIs, data pipelines, and cloud/MLOps basics.
Prior enterprise experience is not required—we value strong fundamentals, curiosity, and personal projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and testing ML / GenAI models, especially for NLP and LLM-based applications.
- Work on prompt design, RAG pipelines, and basic agent workflows under mentorship.
- Contribute to backend services and REST APIs using Python (FastAPI or similar).
- Support model for fine‐tuning, evaluation, and experiment tracking.
- Help build or maintain data pipelines for model inputs and outputs.
- Learn to containerize and deploy AI services using Docker and basic cloud tools.
- Follow engineering best practices: Git, code reviews, documentation, and CI/CD basics.
- Actively participate in design discussions and team collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in Computer Science, AI, Data Science, Engineering, or related field.
- 0–2 years of experience (internships, academic projects, or personal projects count).
- Programming experience in Python.
- Basic understanding of:
- Machine learning concepts (training vs. inference, overfitting, embeddings)
- NLP fundamentals (tokenization, embeddings, similarity)
- Familiarity with REST APIs and backend concepts.
- Strong learning mindset and ability to explain technical ideas clearly.
Preferred / Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
- Hands-on exposure to PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Familiarity with Hugging Face Transformers, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar tools.
- Basic awareness of:
- Large Language Models (LLMs)
- RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)
- Prompt engineering concepts
- Experience using Git/GitHub for version control.
- Introductory knowledge of Docker, cloud platforms (AWS / Azure / GCP), or CI/CD.
- Exposure to SQL or NoSQL databases.
- Participation in hackathons, open-source projects, or research labs.
AI Engineer Internship – Eligibility Requirements
This internship opportunity is designed for students who meet the following criteria:
Work Authorization:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis (U.S. citizen or permanent resident/Green Card holder)
Academic Status:
Rising junior or senior in a degree‑granting program for the upcoming academic year
Location Requirement:
Available to work onsite in Reston, VA, five (5) days per week during the internship
