Movie Studio Summer Production Internship
Summer 2026 Internship Opportunity — INTERDEPENDENT
Film Studio Development & Production · Coudersport, PA
INTERDEPENDENT, an early-stage film studio backed by a Pennsylvania state planning grant, is recruiting a small summer cohort of college students to support a feasibility study for a hybrid AI + traditional filmmaking campus in Potter County, PA. The work spans live film development, production, campus planning, and product engineering along with film finance and business affairs.
About the studio
INTERDEPENDENT is developing a slate of 8–12 feature films for production in the Pennsylvania Wilds, building a streaming and studio-operations product, and planning a rural production campus in partnership with Hackman Capital Partners (the largest owner-operator of studio lots worldwide). Studio leadership includes:
- Head of Physical Production with credits at Amazon MGM, HBO, New Regency,
and Miramax
- Studio Operations lead who built Annapurna Pictures and ran United Artists
- Lead product engineer formerly at Meta, Disney, and DreamWorks
- Emmy-winning commercial director leading marketing and BTS content
- Founder: Chris Amell
What interns will do
Students apply to one of three tracks and typically contribute to two over the course of the summer:
1. Development & Production — script coverage, location scouting across six PA
counties, casting review, budgeting and packaging sessions, BTS content
production
2. Campus Planning — feasibility-study contributions including compute, power,
connectivity, housing, and AI pre-visualization for investor and state
presentations
3. Product / Engineering / Design — software development on the studio's web
platform, AI agent workflows, and design system
Interns work directly with studio leadership and the founder. The cohort draws from a national pool of universities including UCLA, USC, Cornell,
Ithaca, Penn State, and more.
Dates and duration
The full program runs ten weeks during summer 2026. INTERDEPENDENT is also accepting shorter commitments of two to nine weeks on a case-by-case basis to accommodate students with conflicting summer obligations or academic calendars. Start and end dates can flex earlier or later, including at the studio's Santa Monica office (hosted at a16z). Interested students should indicate their available window in their application; the studio will scope a defined deliverable to match.
Compensation and logistics
The internship is unpaid. INTERDEPENDENT covers:
- Round-trip flights to Bradford Regional Airport (BFD)
- Housing at the studio's Coudersport headquarters
- Three meals per day
- Weekly cohort excursions across the PA Wilds
Post-internship pathway
Approximately one in three interns receives a return offer at the conclusion of the summer:
- Graduating seniors — full-time post-graduation roles with equity participation
- Continuing students — paid part-time roles during the following academic year
Both pathways are contingent on the studio's end-of-summer GO / NO-GO decision on campus construction and slate production. Interns who do not receive return offers leave with a written recommendation from the founder and documented project work suitable for portfolios and graduate applications.
Who should apply
The cohort is open to students across film, media studies, communications, journalism, advertising, engineering, design, business, pre-law, and related fields. Strong candidates demonstrate self-direction, intellectual range, and a real interest in helping build something from the ground up.
