Air Resources Engineer

The Evaporative Emissions Testing Section (EETS) is seeking an enthusiastic candidate to join a highly skilled and dedicated team of technical and professional staff to conduct emissions testing and research activities at CARB's Southern California Headquarters facility. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team responsible for supporting the Agency's vehicle testing programs in areas of certification, in-use compliance, regulatory development, enforcement, emissions inventory and research using three variable-volume, variable temperature Sealed Housing for Evaporative Determination (SHED) enclosures, and a running loss SHED with a chassis dynamometer. Under general direction of the Air Resources Supervisor I, the Air Resources Engineer applies engineering knowledge, skills, and principles, to review, validate and interpret vehicle emission test plan and data; develop and adapt instrumentation and operation procedures for automotive engine and evaporative control device testing and evaluation; develop new testing procedures to evaluate automotive technologies; plan and carry out comprehensive automotive engineering studies and investigations; interpret and apply laws, rules and regulations pertaining to automotive testing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with automobile manufacturers, emission equipment suppliers, other governmental agencies, and emission research organizations; communicate effectively, analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

Working Conditions

 

This position is not currently eligible for telework. The incumbent will be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.
 

Effective July 1, 2025, the California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.
