Essential Functions

The Graduate Assistant for the Office of Strategic Marketing & Communications (MarComm) is a developmental role designed to provide hands-on experience across a variety of marketing and communication functions within a higher education setting. This position offers exposure to strategic messaging, content development, event coordination, and operational processes; preparing the graduate assistant for a professional career in marketing, communications, or related fields.

Work Schedule

20 hours per week-scheduling to be determined

Additional Duties

Editorial & Content Development

  • Write, edit, and proofread content for a variety of platforms, including websites, blogs, newsletters, and internal communications
  • Assist in developing editorial content aligned with institutional voice, brand standards, and strategic priorities


Marketing, Digital & Communications Support

  • Draft and adapt marketing copy for diverse audiences, including prospective students, current students, faculty, and staff
  • Assist with campaign development and execution across digital and print channels
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure consistency in messaging and branding


Event, Operational & Administrative Support

  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the marketing and communications office, including project management for college and program level project requests
  • Support project tracking, documentation, and workflow coordination
  • Help maintain organizational systems such as user management and contracts, and other shared resources managed by MarComm


Learning Outcomes

  • Gain practical experience in multiple facets of marketing and communications within a higher education setting
  • Develop professional writing and editing skills for a variety of audiences and platforms
  • Build project management and organizational skills in a collaborative team environment
  • Understand strategic communications planning and execution

Required Qualifications

  • Enrollment in a graduate program, preferably in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for internal team needs and connecting with campus partners
  • Attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, set priorities for work assigned, and use of digital platforms and AI to streamline work efficiencies
  • Interest in higher education marketing and communications
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

     

Preferred Qualifications

Sole employment with UNO MarComm or priority for availability given to MarComm.
