Copywriter
Love to write? Passionate about conservative politics? Ready to turn both into a career?
At HSP Direct, our mission is clear: elect conservative leaders and advance causes that defend freedom. We do that by building best-in-class fundraising programs for political and nonprofit organizations nationwide.
We’re looking for a talented, motivated writer who wants to learn the craft of persuasive writing and put those skills to work for causes and candidates they believe in.
You don’t need years of agency experience to get started. You do need strong writing instincts, intellectual curiosity, a genuine passion for conservative politics, and a willingness to learn.
If you're graduating from college and wondering how to turn your ability to write and your interest in politics into a meaningful career, this could be the opportunity you're looking for.
The Opportunity
As a Copywriter at HSP Direct, you’ll learn how to turn ideas, issues, and stories into persuasive fundraising campaigns that inspire people to take action. You will:
- Write copy that moves people: Develop compelling direct mail fundraising appeals for leading conservative candidates, political organizations, PACs, and nonprofit organizations across the country.
- Become an expert on the issues: Research your clients, their missions, their positions, and the issues their supporters care about—and learn how to translate complex ideas into clear, persuasive messages.
- Learn the craft of direct response: Develop a specialized set of writing and fundraising skills while learning what makes people open an envelope, keep reading, respond, and give.
- See your work in the real world: Your writing won’t sit in a classroom or disappear into a portfolio. You’ll create campaigns that reach real audiences and help organizations achieve real fundraising goals.
- Learn to perform in a fast-paced environment: Manage multiple assignments, write on deadline, respond to feedback, and continually improve your work.
- Work alongside experienced professionals: Collaborate with copywriters, account managers, strategists, and other members of our team while developing the skills to take on greater responsibility over time.
Who This Is For
This role is built for someone who:
- Loves writing and wants to become exceptionally good at it
- Follows politics and has a strong understanding of conservative ideas and issues
- Wants their work to advance conservative candidates and causes
- Is naturally curious and enjoys researching new subjects
- Can take a point of view and make a persuasive argument
- Welcomes feedback and is willing to revise, learn, and improve
- Can manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
- Takes ownership of their work and pays attention to the details
- Wants more than just a first job—they want to develop a craft and build a career
What Sets This Role Apart
- Your work will matter: You'll write on behalf of organizations and candidates working to shape the future of the country.
- You'll build a valuable professional skill: You'll learn direct-response copywriting—how to use words, ideas, emotion, and strategy to persuade people to act.
- You'll get real responsibility early: You'll contribute to actual client campaigns rather than spending your first year on the sidelines.
- You'll learn from experienced professionals: You'll work with a team that knows political fundraising and direct mail and is invested in producing excellent work.
- You'll have room to grow: As your writing and judgment develop, you'll have opportunities to take on more challenging assignments and greater responsibility.
