As a U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer, you’ll take on real leadership responsibility early in your career while serving aboard Navy ships around the world. Surface Warfare Officers are responsible for leading Sailors, managing complex shipboard operations, and helping ensure their ships are ready to accomplish missions at sea. The role combines leadership, decision-making, technical knowledge, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment where every day can bring a new challenge. Whether coordinating a ship’s movement, managing a division of Sailors, or supporting missions overseas, you’ll gain hands-on leadership experience that is difficult to find in a traditional entry-level career.
What You’ll Do

- Oversee engineering, weapons, or communications systems
- Coordinate missions and shipboard operations

Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree and meet U.S. Navy officer eligibility, medical, physical, and security requirements. Students from a wide range of academic majors are encouraged to apply.
