Internship for Community Organizers

At work and in the community, we are engaged in the struggle for social and economic justice!

We are looking for interns who are interested in one or more of the following areas of work:

Fundraising—assisting with grant writing, event coordination and grassroots fundraising.

Administrative—Data entry, phone calls, intake of wage theft claims, translator

Research—engaging in research on domestic worker and temp agency worker legislation, OPRA requests, workplace problem follow-up, participating in meeting and conference calls with local and national organizations such as National Domestic Worker Alliance

Technology—assisting with website development, social media, newsletter development, etc.

Policy advocacy—engaging with legislators, participating in conference calls and meetings to advocate for: Domestic worker bill of rights and legislation to improve work for domestic workers.

Outreach—mobilizing and organizing potential members and community members interested in receiving support around worker issues and the new temp agency law. 

Education—assisting with and conducting ESL classes, leadership trainings, worker rights workshops, worker health and safety training, etc.

New Labor is a membership based worker center that empowers low-wage, mostly immigrant workers through education, organizing and fighting for better conditions of work. Since our founding in January of 2000, we have grown to over 3,000 members.

We are seeking student interns who have a commitment to social justice and improving working conditions. 


Positions available in Lakewood, Newark and New Brunswick, NJ.

Qualifications: 
English-Spanish bilingual is required. Strong interpersonal & communication skills; Must be responsible, punctual and self-motivated.
