Drama/ Theatre Instructor at Camp Lohikan

Camp Lohikan is a premier summer camp nestled in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. With over 65 years of experience, we offer a diverse and exciting program for campers aged 6 to 15. Our goal is to create unforgettable summer experiences for campers while fostering personal growth, teamwork, and lasting friendships.

As a Drama/Theatre Counselor at Camp Lohikan, you will play a vital role in creating a memorable and transformative summer experience for our campers. You'll have the opportunity to inspire, teach, and mentor young aspiring actors and actresses in a beautiful natural setting. Key Responsibilities within the drama program include:

  • Plan and lead drama and theatre-related activities for campers of various age groups.
  • Develop and organize creative and engaging drama programs, including full scale musicals and plays sessionally.
  • Encourage campers to express themselves through acting, storytelling, and other theatrical arts.
  • Oversee the construction and installation of sets, the creation of costumes, and the acquisition or creation of props with the help of our talented campers. Ensure that all elements are completed on time and meet safety standards.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive environment where campers can build confidence and teamwork skills.
  • Supervise and ensure the well-being of campers during drama activities and throughout the camp day.
  • Participate in all-camp activities, including evening programs and special events.
  • Collaborate with fellow staff members to create a cohesive and supportive camp community.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers and uphold camp rules and policies.
  • Provide constructive feedback and evaluations for campers' performances.

Please note: All activity instructors also serve as cabin counselors when not instructing during the daily program.

Responsibilities as a Cabin Counselor:

  • Serve as a mentor and role model to a group of campers within a cabin.
  • Create a supportive and inclusive cabin environment that promotes social and emotional growth.
  • Supervise campers during meal times, bedtime, and other daily routines.
  • Plan and participate in cabin activities and group bonding experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with co-counselors to ensure the overall well-being of campers.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children in a camp, theatre, or educational setting and acting or producing theatre shows is a must.
  • A strong passion for drama, theatre, and the performing arts.
  • Knowledge of drama and theatre techniques, including acting, scriptwriting, and stage production.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to a dynamic camp environment.
  • Enthusiasm, patience, and a positive attitude.

Dates of Employment: The camp season typically runs from early June to mid-August. Counselors are required to attend pre-camp training, which usually begins in late May. Additional pre-camp work opportunities available.
