Engineering Intern, Methods Department

BAE Systems is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated intern with experience using AutoCAD and Solid Works to join our team and help support the department for upcoming new projects.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Use Microsoft Access, Excel, Visio and Project to set up, organize and analyze technical information.
  • Document existing and new tooling in Solid Works or AutoCAD so that tooling can be maintained or replaced as necessary.
  • Improvement of current manufacturing documentation.
  • Implement/develop 3D CAD based instructions.
  • Design and release manufacturing tooling/fixtures.
  • Help to standardize specific build requirements for the manufacturing of aerospace hardware.
  • Lead or support Lean/Kaizen activities.
  • Conduct data collection activities including time and utilization studies.
  • Work with the manufacturing team to purchase, install, test, debug, and validate new equipment and machine tooling within the department for the new project.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
 

  • Currently pursuing an engineering degree with completion of at least four semesters toward a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or strongly related fields.
  • Basic knowledge of fundamental engineering and Lean concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with current, computer applications and technologies in applicable engineering disciplines (2D/3D Modeling software, Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Proficient with Solid Works or AutoCAD.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective, professional relationships, and communicate effectively.
  • Conduct data collection activities including time and utilization studies.
  • Demonstrate strong work ethic and ability to drive tasks to completion.
  • Ability to work well with cross-functional team.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
 

  • Use of IE and Lean tools to develop and improvement manufacturing processes, methods / systems as well as ensure outcomes meet requirements and expectations.
  • Exposure to discreet simulation, understanding of material flow, line balancing and takt time.
