The Challenge

We are hiring an entry-level engineer to join our Project Management team.

 

In this role, you will:

  • Assist our Project Managers and Senior Project Managers leading daily activities to successfully deliver quality State Transportation Improvement Projects (STIPs) and Non-STIP projects on time and on budget.
  • Manage daily activities in a portfolio of centrally managed STIP and Non-STIP projects with low complexity with guidance and supervision from the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.  
  • Support tracking and reporting on assigned tasks.
  • Assist in developing project schedules for work delivering projects and following up to ensure work is completed with projects and is in scope, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Assist with maintaining project milestones, tracking changes and decisions, identifying risks and mitigation strategies and ensuring deliverables produced are following all federal and state laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Support our Senior Project Manager overseeing private engineering firms, administering private engineering firm (PEF) contracts and participating in consultant selection.
  • Help with scopes of service and labor cost estimates.
  • Review progress reports and check invoices for accuracy/completeness.
  • Provide performance feedback.
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders and team members (in person and virtually).

What You Bring

  • Knowledge of professional engineering principles and practices of civil engineering related to Highway Design with an emphasis on project planning, project design, construction, and maintenance methods, as they apply to the Project Delivery Process.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies related to transportation projects, including Federal and State regulations and laws; FHWA policies and guidelines; and NCDOT organization, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Experience interpreting plans, provisions, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Experience setting project priorities, developing work schedules, monitoring progress towards goals, and tracking details/data/information/activities.
  • Experience effectively communicating project information in a clear, concise, and organized manner and consulting with senior engineers on technical matters.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

  

Note

  • We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
