Finance Specialist

UMGC Europe

Location: Kaiserslautern, Germany

Overseas Regular, 100% FTE, Full-time, Grade 005

 

University of Maryland Global Campus Europe (UMGC Europe) seeks a Finance Specialist in the Business Office. Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Finance Specialist will be responsible for collecting and supporting analysis of financial data, assisting with purchasing, and managing finance/accounting related requests from the division. Work is on-site at the UMGC Europe Headquarters.

 

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Gathering, compiling, and generating reports using multiple UMGC data sources

Assist Finance Director to run and analyze accounting, budget, and other financial statements and reports

Responsible for aiding in the annual preparation and internal allocation of fiscal year budget

Regularly update and implement policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices developed by the Finance Director, including training and SOP documentation

This role will require knowledge of Financial systems processes, the ability to document current/future processes, and the ability to communicate and train others on those processes

Review and approve purchase requisitions for the division

Assist with purchasing through maintenance and review of contracts and service agreements for renewals and cancellations

Collaborate with departmental budget liaisons, requisitioners, and purchasing card holders to identify improvements to processes in order to create efficiencies

Provide high-level customer service to internal University stakeholders

Assist with various financial, accounting requests from departments across the division

Manage user/role-based security groups, in conjunction with Stateside colleagues

Maintain confidentiality of information including salaries and operational expenses

Create process efficiencies for purchasing and tracking systems to better ensure adherence

Assist in quality assurance, ad-hoc reporting, and special projects as needed

Performing other job-related duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution in a finance related field or foreign degree equivalent. 

Strong analytical and forecasting skills

Ability to evaluate financial data

Proficiency in Excel

Experience with Workday Financials

In addition, candidates must be detail oriented and a critical thinker, have the ability to visualize concepts and ideas and put into concrete formats (reports, summaries), and be able to work independently and under minimal supervision.

Have a proven ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both orally and in writing with a variety of stakeholders internal and external to the institution.

Ability to work in a very fast-paced environment, use initiative and resourcefulness, and exercise sound judgment. Maintain confidentiality and handle time sensitive matters.

Will be required to work specific annual events, i.e.: Commencement.

Must be able to pass a U.S. background check.

Must have or be eligible for U.S. SOFA.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree from a U.S. regionally accredited institution in a finance related field or foreign degree equivalent.

Course work in Accounting or Finance

Knowledge of higher education financial management;

Knowledge of general principles of accounting, budgeting, and administrative management.

Knowledge of German language (written and spoken)
