DESCRIPTION OF WORK

 

 

This position will utilize their bilingual ability to communicate orally and in writing in both Haitian Creole and English to customers, staff and the public. You will perform a wide-range of clerical duties, which will enhance staff members’ ability to provide quality services to the citizens of Pennsylvania. You will engage in a variety of clerical and general office duties by following office procedures and using relevant systems. Clerical Assistant 2s interact with the general public in a courteous and professional manner both in person and via telephone. You will utilize basic computer skills to perform various office functions including data entry, customer service, scanning, imaging, filing, answering phones, and processing mail and voice mail. Job duties are carried out under the general supervision of a Clerical Supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
 

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch.  
  • Travel and overtime as needed.
  • DHS provides excellent benefits, contractual pay increases, paid holidays and leave entitlements, opportunity for advancement and shift selection in addition to a great work environment.
  • Work Conditions:  Assigned duties are performed in a controlled office environment. In counties with District Offices, employees may be reassigned to different work sites due to operational needs. Reassignments will be made in compliance with contract language.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $35,306 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (commonwealth title); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must meet the PA residency requirement. For more information on ways to meet PA residency requirements, follow the link and click on Residency. 
  • This position requires the selected candidate to be able to read, write, and speak in Haitian/Creole. If contacted, you must pass the speaking evaluation in order to be deemed eligible for this position. Your proficiency in reading and writing in Haitian/Creole must be demonstrated during the probationary period to achieve regular status in the position.
  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Berks County. If no eligible candidates who live within Berks County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered. 
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
