3D Printing/ Medical Illustration/ Human Factors Intern

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Department of Radiology aims to cultivate a multidisciplinary experience through the CHAMP Internship Program. The CHAMP team is a combination of professionals in 3D printing/Additive manufacturing, human factors engineering, and medical illustration/3D modeling. Together, CHAMP collaborates with departments across the hospital to design and implement innovative solutions for medical training, research, patient education, surgical planning, and device development.
The internship program includes four possible tracks for applicants, which you will indicate your interest in when you apply through the Forms link below.
- Engineering interns will gain hands-on experience designing, segmenting, and printing models.
- Research interns will design, run, and analyze a study of printing applications and workflow implementation.
- Medical illustration interns will collaborate with the staff medical illustrator to create materials that support clinical, educational, and research needs.
- Human Factors interns will gain experience applying their skills to support operational and device projects.
All interns will gain familiarity with various groups across the hospital under the guidance of CHAMP engineers, radiologists, and clinical researchers.
This is a paid internship opportunity. DISCLOSURE: Stipend levels can be modified based on the specific terms, length and duties of the internship/assignment.
Hours & Location: 20 hours per week for 8-10 weeks, typically running June 1st - First week of August.
Minimum of 2 days per week on-site (at CHOP Philadelphia Campus 3401 Civic Center Blvd. or the Roberts Center for Pediatric Research) required for in-person tutorials and tours. The on-site work days are flexible, but some program activities have specific dates as scheduled. Off-site work hours are flexible.
Preferred Qualifications
Enrollment in a degree or training program in a related field
Experience with the design and/or research process
Strong organizational & communication skills
Eagerness to learn new concepts
Either CAD experience, general knowledge in anatomy, biology, medicine, or healthcare.
Job Responsibilities
Lead independent projects from ideation through fruition
Document results for use in research manuscripts or presentation
Provide design and/or process support for various projects
Organize and prioritize work tasks appropriately
Communicate well with team members
Miscellaneous tasks as assigned
