What I wish was different
Out of my cohort of 19 interns, at least 5 had family members in upper level management. Those individuals all received higher level projects and return offers.
Initially provided work was not based on relevant expertise or background, I.e. marketing majors receiving substantive financial/underwriting related projects ahead of people with programming and quant experience.
Interns receive scored manger reviews at midpoint and end of internship. These had little correlation with return offers and even rotational placement. It seems that hiring decisions had little to do with the input of your day to day manager as an intern.
