PNC Financial Services

Retail Lending Services Operations Intern

May - August 2023 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Don't be scared to ask questions or try something new. Joining the corporate world or just starting any new position in general can be really scary at first, but it is extremely beneficial to ask questions and make connections with people in your team. The only way you will learn new things is by stepping out of your comfort zone, asking to try new things, and/ or take the lead on projects.

What I liked

I was given many opportunities to further education myself in courses offered by PNC and in practice with Sales Webinars.

What I wish was different

Advice

Network, network, network! PNC has a great company culture, and EVERYONE wants to help you. I had calls with VPs in the company!

What I liked

I enjoyed the challenges that came along with finding which customers best benefited from our financial products.

What I wish was different

I wish the job were at night so I could focus on school throughout the day.

Advice

A piece of advice I would share is to take a “No” as a “Try Harder Next Time.” When it comes to sales, getting rejected can be hard, but it’s important to not take it personal and continue to work harder.

Summer Banking Intern

May - August 2018 • Denver, CO

What I liked

The opportunity to work on the group project and develop a strategy to improve customer involvement with certain banking services. I also enjoyed created the presentation materails and additional materials to support the project strategy.

What I wish was different

I wished I was not as bored with the job tasks. In addition, I wished I had sought other opportunities to explore my actual interests instead of letting myself feel like I was "stuck" with the pre-assigned tasks of the job.

Advice

Your internship experience really is what you make of it. I was not enjoying myself in the beginning and middle of my experience for various reasons, but I chose to have a positive outlook and use the project aspect of the internship as a way to turn my experience around. The work I put into the project paid off in the end and I had a fun time doing it!
