Salesforce

Software Intern

May - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I did my internship at Salesforce as part of the Futureforce program in 2019. My experience has been great. One of the best things of interning at Salesforce is the chance to interact with people from different orgs. The company is very transparent and highly encourages team switching. Another great thing about the futureforce program is how they make sure that interns are comfortable at organization and have a great time. Its a perfect balance of good work and fun at the same time. Would highly recommend if someone wants to work for a company that values and cares for you and the society as a whole.

What I wish was different

Nothing that I can think of. The only thing is that people in the industry don't consider Salesforce to be as Tech as other big players which sometimes don't give you that great feeling.

Advice

Amazing Experience at Salesforce : Give it a try!

What I liked

I love the company culture: Ohana!! Everyone here is sooo friendly and they helped me from the first day to the very last second. My director really gave me a lot of useful advice through the summer that really made me grow.

What I wish was different

The machine setup could be done by the day we arrived. :)

Advice

As the first internship, don't be afraid to ask questions even it maybe bothers your teammate a lot. They all are willing to help!

Software Engineer Intern

May - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I had the opportunity to work on the Heroku team inside of Salesforce. I am happy to say that out of all the internships I have completed, my internship at Salesforce was by far the best. Engineers on the Heroku team were always willing to lend a hand in terms of pair programming, code reviews, and being a knowledge center. I learned so much, and many of the engineers I met there I still keep in touch with them. Not only did the company pay us very well (around 50 per hour), but they also provided us free housing in San Francisco.

What I wish was different

Heroku's engineering team is about 90% remote internationally, and so it took a little adjustment getting used to working on a fully remote organization. The company made it very easy to deal with this by creating an environment of constant communication through daily standups, frequent code pairing sessions, and all-hands meetings. Although I never met my manager once over the whole Summer since he lived on top of a mountain in Colorado, he was always there for me for work and personal matters.

Advice

Salesforce is a company that is rapidly growing, and all they are looking from candidates is a strong eagerness to learn and being open to fail fast. I learned through this experience to never take criticism personally and to always grow from it.

Software Engineering Intern

June - August 2019 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I like the company's values and mission. We do volunteer work and help the community. Also I like how my recruiter is helping me along the way on my 12 weeks interning with them. And also how they tailored the events such as going to Angel Island and watching baseball at Oracle Park and doing Scavenger hunt. In addition, I met and networked with other people that worked in Salesforce for many years and how they journey on where they are right now.

What I wish was different

I wish they given me a project that would be impactful and more sense of teamwork and team building project because I pretty much on my internship I did work on my own. Also I wish I have a different mentor and a more variety of projects to work with because my mentor wasn't really than helpful. He's more frustrated than helpful and less unapproachable. He works late and I work early so I think there's a huge gap of communicating with my mentor so I had to reach more to the other team to help me out on the project. Also my boss didn't see the value in me. I know the company's mission and values a lot and I embraced them entirely. And most of the interns didn't embraced that value and care more about the money that they receive.

Advice

Always know your value is worth and if people don't see that you better start giving more out to other people and show it that your better. If your team doesn't see your value then for sure some other teams will more of it than the one you currently have.

Software Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

I loved the work and company culture. Living in San Francisco was awesome and there were awesome company perks!

What I wish was different

Nothing, my experience was great!

Advice

Accept all the experience you get at a job as positive and things you can learn from. I had to change teams halfway through the summer because of a strategic shift at the company. It could have been very negative as I had to scrap my project and start over new again, but I treated it as something I could learn from. I learned how to transition to a new team quickly and realized that sometimes things don't go according to plan and being able to be flexible and adapt is a valuable skill.

Strategic Events Intern

June - August 2018 • San Francisco, CA

What I liked

Being at such a large corporate environment opened a lot of doors for me, from meeting hundreds of other interns to the endless flow of events, networking, and volunteering opportunities.

What I wish was different

Advice

I would say for summer internships, don’t be afraid to apply to positions that don’t “match” your specific major or studies. As long as you are interested and committed to be a great intern, all of your social and technical skills are much more needed than you may think.

Salesforce is a great place to grow and learn as a young professional. Their internship program is structured, giving you the proper training and understanding of what your tasks are, while being flexible and open to changes and your own path in the company.
